Frequently asked questions

It's a fair question. Quality window film is a functional building product — not a cosmetic add-on. It reduces the heat entering your space, protects your furniture and flooring from UV damage, and in most cases noticeably reduces how hard your air conditioning needs to work. For Queensland homes and businesses, where west and north-facing glass can make rooms genuinely uncomfortable for months of the year, the difference is real and lasting. The film carries a lifetime warranty. If it doesn't perform as specified, we come back and fix it.

Modern window film is designed to manage heat and UV without significantly altering the appearance of the glass. Most clients report no noticeable change in natural light. We carry options from virtually clear to darker tints and will recommend the right grade for your orientation and situation.

Residential jobs are usually completed in half a day — a full home with 10–15 windows typically takes 3–5 hours. Commercial and office projects depend on scale and access requirements. We provide a clear timeline at quote stage and can schedule outside business hours where needed.

For residential jobs, yes — we need access to the property and prefer someone to be present. For commercial and office work we can coordinate with building management and access out of hours. We'll confirm all access requirements when the job is booked.

Yes, within specific limits. Queensland law requires front side windows to allow at least 35% visible light transmission (VLT), and rear side and rear windows at least 20% VLT. We confirm legal compliance on every automotive job before any film is cut — you won't be left guessing.

No — this is completely normal. Window film takes 4–8 weeks to fully cure in Queensland's climate. During this period you may notice minor haziness or small water pockets beneath the film as the adhesive sets and moisture evaporates. Both resolve on their own. Avoid cleaning the glass for the first two weeks, and never use abrasive cloths or ammonia-based cleaners. We provide written aftercare instructions on every job.

Every Big Tints installation is covered by a lifetime warranty. If the film fails to perform as specified — peeling, bubbling, or significant colour shift — we return and rectify the issue at no cost. That covers both the film manufacturer's warranty and our installation workmanship.

Yes. Film can be removed without damaging the glass when done correctly. It's a more involved process than installation and is best left to a professional — DIY removal often leaves adhesive residue or scratches the glass. We can advise on removal or carry it out if required.

We source exclusively from 3M and SunTek — both tier-one manufacturers with independently verified performance data and strong warranty backing. Brand matters because it determines the quality of the substrate, adhesive, and UV inhibitors. Cheaper unbranded film fades, peels, and turns purple within a few years. We don't use it.

Yes. We carry $10M public liability insurance, operate to AS/NZS 2208 compliance standards, and can supply a full capability statement, insurance certificate of currency, and compliance documentation for tender submissions. Commercial and government work is a core part of what we do — not an afterthought.
